Independence Day is just around the corner, and there is plenty to do in the Mohawk Valley. Celebrate our nation’s birthday with one of the amazing celebrations in the area with a touch of local flair. Independence Day isn’t just fireworks anymore. Many Mohawk Valley locations feature live music, food trucks, and much more.
So don’t stay home, get out and enjoy the community.

Local news this week in the 315
🥪Oneida-Herkimer BOCES and the Utica City School District kick off their free summer meal programs for area kids in July. Utica offers lunches from July 7 to August 22 at multiple locations. Each location is open from 11 AM to 2 PM. See the link below for locations.
BOCES distributes breakfast or lunch at various locations across Oneida and Herkimer counties. See the link for locations and times.
🦺The Oneida County Youth Employment Program kicks off its 2025 season, offering youths aged 14 to 18 a chance at employment. According to the County Executive Picente’s office, the program estimates about 450 youths placed across the county.
The kids work with children’s programs, park beautification, and plant community gardens with organizations like the Resource Center for Independent Living, Municipal Housing Authority, and other organizations.
