The last week of school in the Mohawk Valley. Time to plan some summer fun.

Edition 11 of What's Happening 315 - Your local newsletter.

We are Mohawk Valley strong.

I had a hard time coming up with good news this week. After a tornado swept through our community, taking 3 lives, I was lost for words. My motivation to write something good in the toilet. But as I sat on the front porch watching everyone help put our community back together, I saw the good in tragedy.

First, thank you to the fire departments who responded from around Oneida and Herkimer counties to help. Thank you to Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance for pushing through and helping everyone, related and unrelated to the storm. Thank you to Kirkland PD, the Oneida County Sheriffs, and the large response from the NY State Troopers for helping keep things moving.

Next, thank you to National Grid, the power line contractors, Spectrum, and Verizon for getting the community back online. Thank you to the tree removal companies for clearing the roads and lines. Thank you to the county and state DPW and DOT for helping with clearing and handling the flooded roads.

Finally, thank you to the whole community for showing why the Mohaek Valley is an amazing place to live. Neighbors and friends who helped clear. People checking on people. Volunteers and people who donated or opened their businesses and organizations to help those in need. The people who continued to give out and deliver food at the Church of the Annunciation and the Legion.

If you want to help those who lost their lives, here are the links to GoFundMe campaigns to help.

For the Bisson twins.

Good news this week in the 315

🍻The Stone Soup American Bistro and Beer Garden announced the grand opening of the Beer Garden on June 28th at 2 PM. We saw a Facebook comment that there are three bands lined up to play the grand opening. Check them out and try their food. We’re getting ready to try it out and have heard nothing but good things.

🦺Utica Teens in Action is celebrating its grand opening with its ribbon cutting on June 24 at 9:30 am. Dwayne Pressley, CEO, is a recent graduate of the Youth Entrepreneurs Academy and employs local teens to help with handyman work such as landscaping, snow removal, and home cleanouts.
